![]() Obviously, these are not conducive to off-site performance management, and over time can contribute to imbalance career development or discriminatory employee experience. Too often, a return to office includes a return to “business as usual” - which is traditionally a return to management methods that rely on physical supervision and presence-based productivity measurement systems. In the fairy tale of hybrid working, proximity bias is the big bad wolf. Learning, planning and team-building are important to the Trailblazer Ranch experience, but we can accomplish this in a whole new way - surrounded by nature, with wellbeing, giving back and fun at the center.” The press release describes how guests will “have the opportunity to participate in tactile experiences like guided nature walks, restorative yoga, garden tours, group cooking classes, art journaling, and meditation. This company is defending that productivity doesn’t always exist in the form of meetings and reports, and in an environment that is neither home nor office, results could be even stronger. Return-to-work dates are beside the point - we developed Flex Team Agreements to empower teams to decide how, when and where they work based on their unique roles, expertise, location, and customer needs.”īut with Trailblazer Ranch, Salesforce is taking that concept to the next level by offering a new type of workplace environment for an even wider variety of tasks. This means that flexibility is less likely to be perceived as a privilege for certain workers, or to become a discriminatory factor that could combat company diversity, equity, and inclusion goals.īrian Elliott, a Senior Vice President at Slack, explains, “When it comes to designing a workplace policy, we believe that ‘One Size Fits None.’ There is not a single model that works for everyone, so we want to empower each of our employees to identify a schedule and location that optimizes their personal and professional success, align their plan with their team’s needs and dynamics, then continuously iterate to accommodate future adjustments.” Steve Pickle, Executive Vice President of Employee Success Operations at Salesforce echoed the same, “If we’ve learned anything over the past couple years, it’s that there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to work. Right off the bat, they are communicating an intention to not only commit to permanent hybrid working, but increase remote opportunities for all employees over time. Continuing to offer remote work permanently feels like a chore for many companies, as they’re begrudgingly giving into employees’ demands for more flexibility on a per-person, or per-team basis. Game Golf is easy to use, and has a seamless setup.įirst, download the Game Golf app and begin your profile. So now you can play with the confidence and freedom you need in order to shoot lower scores. And since it offers up recommendations as well, you can either use the 9-iron and align a little bit further right to play the hook, or choose a club that the app identifies as a more consistent option - like a soft 8-iron that tends to go straighter when you swing at 80 percent effort. The app even tracks your location, so it’s able to identify the course you’re playing on, giving you recommendations for each shot based on your tendencies and any previous rounds played on that course.įor instance, if you tend to hook your 9-iron on an approach from 135 yards out, Game Golf can show you that data prior to hitting a similar shot. Whether you’re headed to the driving range or playing a quick 9, every single shot is tracked, providing you with invaluable information that’s completely personalized to your own game. Using sensors that easily screw into the top of each club in your bag, you connect to the KZN medallion via your phone’s Bluetooth and get to work! Of course, I missed it, but, hey, Game Golf can’t do everything for me to improve! What is Game Golf?Īt the 30,000-foot level, Game Golf is a powerful and accurate GPS shot tracker. Not only did I stick the shot perfectly onto the green, but it had a little backspin on it, too, leaving me with a five-foot birdie putt. So when I was between clubs on a par-3, I was able to rely on the app to provide my tendencies, which made it easier to choose the right club. Second, Game Golf felt like having a personalized caddie in my back pocket, with the app providing recommendations based off the data it tracked. That helped open up some possibilities on the golf course during at least one of the rounds I played with the training aid. With my 7-iron, I averaged 154 yards, which was about 10 yards longer than I initially thought. When it came to better understanding the distance on my irons, Game Golf surprised me in a couple of different ways.įirst, since I’m reworking my golf swing a bit - in the hopes of staying on plane more often for better contact - I noticed how much farther I’m hitting the ball. While I hate losing nearly 30 yards of length on my first shot, if it saves me from searching for my ball in the woods, I’m fine sacrificing the distance. But with my hybrid off the tee, I saw more shots land in the fairway, and, surprisingly, averaged 228 yards. With my driver, I averaged 256.7 yards off the tee but lacked control, with the ball often slicing on me. In the four rounds and six range sessions that I’ve used Game Golf, I discovered a lot about my game. With the help of Game Golf, I was able to dive deep into the results. Likewise, I needed a better idea of distance control with my irons, as I was lacking precise data about when to use certain clubs on the golf course. ![]() I also wanted to know how much distance I’d be losing if I opted to use hybrid over my driver off the tee (since I have more control with that club). I already had a general idea, so I wanted to see how this training aid could give me exact answers to questions I had.įor instance, I knew I needed to get better with my driver. Sure, I knew what the product was all about - it’s why I bought one for myself to begin with - but I was interested to see how this could improve my overall golf game.Īs someone who has the goal of breaking 80 by the end of this summer, I needed in-depth analysis about what areas of my game I need to get better at. When I first received the Game Golf box in the mail, I had no idea what to expect. Then I got introduced to Game Golf - and my entire routine changed. In other words, I was working harder, not smarter. It was just random and didn’t allow me to compare shots from one day to the next using the same club. ![]() Sure, it was great to see progress now and again, but there wasn’t any rhyme or reason to it. Like most amateur golfers, I was just going to the driving range, practicing purposeful shots with my driver, irons and wedges, and hoping that I’d figure out tendencies in my game that I could apply to the golf course. Heck, I even previously helped launch a company that used data-driven technology to analyze a brand’s competitors, giving them insights into what works for a similar audience.ĭespite that fact, I never actually used data for something that I could personally benefit from: like my golf game! ![]() It’s not that I really define myself as analytical, but I’ve always been a data-driven kind of guy. ![]() Savers who stay invested often only appreciate the power of compounding in the years close to retirement when they really see their money grow rapidly. But if you do, you will not experience the power of compounding when you are older. When you are saving for the long term, as you do when you save for retirement, your savings can initially seem small and you may be tempted to draw them out. It may be at a more modest level than the game inventor's rice, but over many years compounding can get your investment ahead of that of someone who starts saving more than you but starts later than you. If you reinvest these distributions they will compound. These investments will earn you earn dividends that will grow with inflation and you will also earn interest on any bonds or cash in your fund. ![]() How to earn compound interest on your investmentsĪn investment in a bank savings account or money market account or fund will earn interest that can compound if you reinvest the interest.īut you will see a bigger impact of compound interest if you invest in the likes of unit trusts or exchange traded funds that have some exposure to equities or listed property. On the 41 st square, the king was liable for a trillion grains and by the time the 64th square was reached, the king was up for 18-trillion grains of rice.Īccording to the legend, the reward bankrupted the king, forcing him to hand over his kingdom.Īlthough you are not likely to double your money each month or year, the legend illustrates the power of compounding. However, when the grains were counted out, they soon mounted up: at the end of the first row, there were only 128 but by the 21 st square, the king had to supply more than a million grains. The king, who did not understand the power of exponential growth, readily agreed. The man asked for a grain of rice to be placed on the first square of the chess board and for that grain to be doubled on the second square, and on each subsequent square until, the 64 th one. The answer will show you how quickly your money will double. Take 72 and divide it by the interest rate you are earning on your money. If you want to know how quickly the money you have saved will double, use the rule of 72. Happy with the new game, he asked the inventor of the game how he could reward him. ![]() To understand compound interest, it helps to remember an often-told tale about a Persian king who loved games and was presented with the game of chess. This is because interest is added each month to the amount you owe in addition to the interest added in previous months. The longer you take to pay off debt, the more interest you will pay. It is also easy to forget that when you take out debt, compound interest works against you – which is why Einstein said if you don’t understand it, you pay it. However, small amounts saved for long periods can also harness the power of compounding as long as your growth, or interest rate, beats inflation and you reinvest that growth or interest rather than having it paid out to you. It is easy to underestimate how powerful compound interest is in making your money work for you, especially when you start investing with a small amount, and it feels like it will never amount to much. He is also widely believed to have described compound interest as “the eighth wonder of the world” and to have said: “He who understands it, earns it, he who doesn’t, pays it.” This is the reason why, when asked what the most powerful force in the world was, Albert Einstein apparently replied “compound interest”. Common thyme ( Thymus vulgaris) is a good first choice.Īn Old World Mediterranean member of the Labiatae, common thyme is also known as English thyme, garden thyme and mother-of-thyme. Among the most suitable for this purpose are the low-growing thymes, which have tiny fibrous roots that adapt quickly to rock gardens and walkways. Once established, some herbs planted between stepping stones can withstand occasional garden foot traffic without significant damage. While no plant is maintenance-free, the restricted growth area between pavers and foot traffic will tend to “prune” most plants. Though the tiny herbs look sparse, frugal planting now will save work in the long run with less thinning and trimming overgrown pathways. Be patient with this project, choosing to underplant rather than overplant herbs. Protect newly planted areas from heavy traffic and provide shade and adequate water, especially during the first growing season as the plants work to establish themselves. Pavers tend to protect the soil from erosion and retain moisture for the herbs while the herbs provide weed control between the pavers. Deer and rabbits do not care for this fragrant plant, but it can’t tolerate much foot traffic. Another tricky move is the grand pas de deux, a duet that requires precise synchronization between the male and female dancers. ![]() One of the most challenging ballet moves is the fouetté en tournant, which involves a series of rapid turns on one leg while the other leg extends and whips around in a circular motion. However, there are certain moves that are notoriously difficult to perform, even for the most seasoned dancers. From graceful pirouettes to powerful leaps, ballet dancers are known for their impressive range of movements. Dancers can do a single, double, or triple turn, meaning their bodies do multiple rotations in the air before landing.Ballet is a highly technical dance form that requires years of training and practice to master. The perfect combination of turning and jumping, tour en l’air means “turn in the air.” It is one of the most exciting steps in ballet and commonly performed in men’s variations! The step begins and ends in fifth position, with the dancer jumping from a plie, keeping their feet in fifth position but pointed, completing a full turn in the air, and then landing back where they started. ![]() Like we said, a lot of moving parts, but essentially what you get is a pirouette in the air. First, the dancer throws one leg into the air, jumps off the floor with the standing leg and then brings that same standing leg into a retire (leg bent with the foot touching the knee), completes a turn in the air and then lands one the first leg. In ballet, saut de basque describes a travelling jump that has a lot of moving parts. Then, the standing leg raises to meet the top leg, “beating” together and pushing the top leg to go higher in the air, as the bottom leg returns to the floor. In a cabriole, the dancer starts by jumping in the air off of one leg, as the other leg is thrown upwards. From devant, derrière, and à la seconde (front, back, or side) to the height of the jump and the legs, it is one of the most versatile steps in ballet. Meaning caper, or playful skipping movement, a cabriole can be done in a variety of positions. The most common is the sissonne fermee, where the dancer begins and ends the jump in fifth position. Depending on the choreography, dancers can land on either one or two feet, but it always begins with both legs pushing off the floor. To start, the dancer has both legs on the floor in a plie and then splits their legs open in the air before landing. ![]() There are many types of sissone in ballet, but the best way to describe the jump is to think of the dancer’s legs like scissors. Sounds complicated, but it’s a dancer and audience favorite for a reason! Then, from a plie on the supporting leg, the dancer jumps into the air and fully extends that leg, so for a brief moment the dancer looks like they are doing the splits in the air! To finish, the dancer lands in a plie on the first leg. More commonly known as saut de chat, this jump is one of the most popular and widely recognized in ballet! Often seen in grand allegro’s and women’s variations, this step describes when a dancer throws one leg into the air through a développé, meaning the working leg in drawn up the knee of the supporting leg and then extended straight out.
